Diagnostics and Radiography
In Hospital Diagnostic Services
Truro Vet uses cutting edge equipment and trained Technicians to analyze a variety of diagnostic samples from your pet, including: blood, urine, feces, ear debris, skin scrapings, and fine needle aspirates. We are able to provide most test results in the time it takes you to grab a coffee! Some samples, including those for histopathology and bacterial culture, may be referred to an outside laboratory.
Digital Radiography
Radiographs (X-rays) can provide us with valuable information about the internal structures of your pet, allowing us to diagnose a number of conditions we may not be able to identify with just a physical exam. These can include bone fractures, arthritis, tumours, bowel obstructions, bladder stones, heart disease, and pregnancy.
Our digital radiography unit instantly translates our radiographic images to a digital format that enables us to review them on a computer screen. The software associated with these images allows us to lighten or darken the image, zoom in or out, and examine images at a level of detail never before possible. The results are fast (within seconds), accurate (less re-takes) and require less radiation (safer for your pet AND our staff).
We have two digital radiography units, a standard unit for larger images and a dental radiography unit specifically designed for teeth. Dental radiographs allow us to identify tooth disease under the gum line, where it can’t be seen with the naked eye.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound services are available at Truro Vet. This is an excellent non-invasive way to help diagnose a variety of health conditions. Images are interpreted by a radiology service within a few days.
