Dr. Gwen Mowbray-Cashen

I’m Dr. Gwen. I guess you could say veterinary medicine is in my blood since both my parents (Mac and Alison) are veterinarians. I started working in an animal hospital at age twelve – cleaning kennels. I went to the NSAC for one year and continued my studies at the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College. After graduation with honors in 1985, I worked in a multi-vet practice in Ottawa doing mostly emergency medicine. The four years in Ottawa gave me many interesting and challenging cases to start my career. I also met my husband, Chris, who worked as a kennel attendant while doing his BA at Carlton University. In 1989, we moved to NS to work in my mother’s practice while she took a sabbatical. In 1990, I bought the practice and since then I have really found my niche. I enjoy working with people to make their pet’s lives better. I have a special interest in dentistry and animal behavior but I also enjoy internal medicine cases especially with older pets.

I have always had a strong connection with animals in my life. As a child, we always had four or more dogs in our home. My part time job at the hospital enabled me to have a horse in my teenage years. The presence of the animals in my life has been vital to my well being. They have taught me many things about life. Currently, my family includes our cats: Cool Cat Barbarella and Himmie along with Annie the Wonder Dog and too many fish to count. They are helping us teach our children, Tara and Quinn about some of the better things in life.

Hello, my name is Dr. Melissa. I was born and raised in Newfoundland. A career in veterinary medicine has been my goal for as long as I can remember and I feel lucky to work in a field with so many challenges and rewards! I attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College from 1995 to 1999, where I met my husband, Mike. In 2004, I graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College.
After working in a mixed practice in Northern Alberta, we decided to move closer to home. I have been living and practicing in Nova Scotia since 2005 and joined the Truro Vet Team in November 2008. Working with a great group here to provide quality care for our clients does not seem like a job…each day is different!

I currently reside in Truro with Mike and our children Isaac, Grace and Maya. We have a shaggy mutt named Roxie, and two cats named Folly and Tompkin. In my spare time I enjoy being with my family and friends and travelling (especially to Newfoundland).

Hi, I'm Dr. Michelle! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I recieved a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2005. I then attended the Atlantic Veterinary College, and graduated in 2009. After graduation, I moved to Redding, California to work in a busy emergency practice. There, I developed my love for emergency medicine!

In July 2010, I moved back to the Maritimes and joined the Truro Veterinary Hospital team. I live with my boyfriend Ian (who is also a vet!), and we just bought our first house. We have also recently adopted a cat named Flynn.

In my spare time I enjoy traveling, hiking, and swimming.
