Hospital Staff
Every well oiled machine has its background players who pitch in to keep things going.
In our case, our hospital staff do a marvelous job of keeping things flowing.
They do a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that makes the rest of the staff's job easier.
From keeping the place tidy to making
sure we are well stocked with supplies, it's hats off to these folks.

Hi. My name is Juanita and I am the Hospital Manager. My job is to take care of the day-to-day running of the hospital so the owner, Dr. Gwen, can do what she loves most - being a vet. This includes ordering the different medications and supplies (like bandages and surgical gloves) as well as food and pet supplies. I am also responsible for all the bookwork like payroll, accounts payable, and various financial analyses. As part of our vet team I look after other team members by evaluating their performance and addressing any concerns and ideas that arise.
At home, my husband Wayne and I are owned by our handsome Golden Retriever, Chuckles, and our 2 cats - Wisdom aka The Whiz Kid (DSH orange tabby) and Wilbur aka Wilbuuurrrrto (DSH black with a purr as loud as a Harley Davidson!). Both cats were strays found outdoors who have adapted wonderfully to being strictly indoor cats. All our critters provide us with hours of entertainment and little bed space. |
Virginia
|
My name is Virginia. My role at Truro Vet is the housekeeper. My duties include sweeping up hair, mopping floors, sweeping hair, scrubbing walls, countertops and sinks, sweeping hair, dusting hair off of shelves, cleaning windows, doing laundry, cleaning kennels and did I mention sweeping up hair? I enjoy talking to people about their pets and try to make them feel more comfortable about their visit.
At home, my husband and I share our house with a mere 6 cats (Ashley, Maggie, Molly, Rusty, Tiger and Wally) and Amy the Beagle. With all these animals, vacuuming is almost a fulltime job. All my cats are indoor only cats which means I have 6 litter boxes that are cleaned everyday. So if I’m not cleaning here, I’m cleaning at home! |
Lisamarie

Hi! I’m Lisamarie. I normally work behind the scenes at Truro Vet, but occasionally I can be found behind the reception desk or helping out in the exam room. My job is to do whatever needs to be done (just about), and that can mean anything from cleaning kennels to trimming nails, to running blood work.
I graduated from a Veterinary Assistant program at the Maritime Business College in Dartmouth, NS in the summer of 2002 and have been working here ever since.
When I’m not at work, I like to spend my time with my family; my daughter, Leigh, my Chow Chow, Boy, and my two cats, Bones and Mickey. |
Ashley

Hi there I'm Ashley. I can be seen most of the time outback; running blood work, holding a patient for surgery preparations or cleaning kennels but sometimes I can be called into an exam room to hold a patient for closer examination. My job is to help.
When I'm not at work I can be found at home with my boys; Jasper (DSH black and white), Mango (DSH orange and white tabby) and Charlie aka Mr. Charles (Holland Lop Eared Rabbit) and not to forget my girl; Miss Ty, our mixed breed. All of whom I adopted from the Colchester SPCA. I can also be found playing sports on a baseball diamond, soccer field or in a hockey rink. |
Carmen

Hi there! I'm Carmen, one of the animal health technicians (animal nurse) at TVH. Since graduating from NSAC in 1996, I have worked in other clinics, in research, and as an instructor for the animal health program and at the NSAC. I have been working on and off at TVH since 1994.
Presently, I share my house with an orange tabby named Beaker who came to me as a stray. Our first couple of weeks together were a bit tenuous, but we've been the best of friends ever since.
My passon in the winter and sporadically in the summer is "Curling" - best sport in the world! |

Hi! My name is Joye and I am a Registered Veterinary Technician (Pet Nurse). I came to Truro Vet as an externship student in 2006 and I’ve been here ever since! I can often be found starting your appointment when I’m not out back assisting with surgery. Currently, one of my favorite aspects of my job is using our new digital x-ray unit. I am also a counselor with our Slim Fit program, helping pets achieve and maintain healthy weight.
When I’m not here, I can be found at home with my beautiful cat Xyla or out rehearsing for a new production! |

Kaila

Hello there, my name is Kaila. I have been with the Truro Vet team since Ocotber 2007. You can find me working behind the scenes mostly, running bloodwork, filling prescriptions, trimming nails and fixing any of our computer problems. And sometimes you might find me out front helping the reception girls.
I have a busy life recently as my boyfriend and I just bought a new house and are in the middle of renovating. We have a new member of our household, Indy, who is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and he certainly keeps us busy. We also share our home with our two cats, Thom and Parelli, and our bearded dragon, Solo. We also have a field full of horses in our back yard, two of which are my own, Blue and Chance. |
